Bball Update for Round 6, 20 August
Games Results and Standings
Standings and results are online, www.filcomsports.org.au/basketball.
Thanks to Rob Lara our Stats Coordinator this info is now updated on time, no later than Monday.
I think it is safe, that I won't have to remind you in this email that it is online.
Instead, I will be able to write more interesting info about the games on my next weekly update.
Next Week is Round 7, which is the half way point of our (long) season. See you this Saturday at AIS!
Lockdown (Div 1 and Div 2)
Just a final reminder that after Round 6 your team lineup must now be finalised. Any new players can only be accepted by replacing existing players. Team captains must notify their Div Coordinators and wait for approval. Please send your request to

or direct to your Div Coordinators' email address.
Duty Teams - Thank You!
Big thanks to the Duty Teams especially last Saturday, for providing enough players to do your Duty. Credit to the Team Captains for following up with this as per discussed at the meeting. There is also a dramatic improvement on how the scoresheets are completed. The MVP votes are also filled almost completely each time (there should be five votes per game). Please keep up the good work!
As per agreement with the Team Captains, an email will be sent to the team captains as a reminder if there are particular section of the scoresheet that needs completing properly.
Referee Training last Saturday 20 Aug
The Level 0 Referee Training Course last Saturday was attended by 8 Filcom players (total of 10).
Based on the feedback I received from a number of players, the session was a success.
A Big thanks to the players who attended, we do appreciate you for putting the time to learn the rules and gain some skill in refereeing. Once I have the list of names of attendees (from Dr Jhay) I will publish them on my next update so that all players are aware who you are (at least by name and which team!).
Thanks to the coordinators, Fred, Chris and Jhay, who also attended as a refresher for them and for showing support to the players.
I also attended the course to show my support and I personally learnt a lot from the session that Karin presented. I feel more confident in refereeing once again after being updated with the fundamental rules as well as being able to discuss the practical side of how to make calls during a game.
We plan to organise another course in the next two weeks, I highly recommend that EVERYONE attend when you can even if you do not plan to referee soon.
For those who attended please feel free to send me feedback as to what you think of the session and how it can be improved. I will then pass these on to Karin.
Green Ref uniforms
To the trainee referees (players who attended the Level 0 Ref Course) the next BIG step is to officiate games! As part of guiding and supporting the trainiee referees, they will be required to wear the ACT Bball endorsed Green referee uniforms.
This way they are visible to all players and spectators alike and everyone (players and spectators) will be required to give the officials in Green some space to learn to officiate without harassment and abuse. I will send another update or article on this later in my brand new Blog! http://filcomsports.org.au/blogbball.
Brand new basketball
As per request of the team captains, we have purchased brand new Spalding basketballs! We will be using the brand new Spalding basketballs which are the same model/size that are used by the NBL. :-)
These balls are normally $89-$99 each. By buying bulk we are able to purchase these around $70 each, so if you are interested to buy please reply to this email.

Referee Assessment for Dr Jhay tonight!
All the best to our Referee Coordinator, Jhay 'Dr Jhay' Castillo for his referee assessment tonight at Belconnen Bball Courts!
I'm confident he will be successful to obtain his badge and he will be a new addition to our list of qualified referees. He's been honing his ref skills each week, where last week he officiated a total of 5 games! No games ended up in a brawl so I guess he is doing well! :-P Good luck tonight Dr Jhay!
Look GOOD next Saturday!
Just a reminder to all teams that our professional photographer, Lucia, will be paying us a visit and will take photos of each team. So please make sure you turn up for your game, wear your team uniforms and look your best! The most original team photo will win a prize!
Lost and found
I have two basketballs that were handed over to me last Saturday. If you lost your basketball please describe them to me. I'll also bring the lost basketballs this coming Saturday.
